Maki is a solid Phinisi-style liveaboard built in Sulawesi in 2016 and refined over years of running surf trips through the Mentawai Islands. She hosts up to thirteen guests across five air-conditioned cabins, including one master cabin with ocean views and a private bathroom. There are five toilets onboard and two outdoor showers. Cruising at around ten knots, Maki carries two tenders—one aluminium runabout with a 40 horsepower engine and one inflatable with a 15 horsepower engine—making surf access smooth and reliable. The boat is set up for proper surf missions, with a large boardroom that can store up to fifty boards, fishing and snorkelling gear, stand-up paddleboards, a spearfishing gun, satellite Starlink WiFi, sun decks, and a lounge with a screen for reviewing clips. Trips include eleven nights on board with ten full days of surfing, along with meals prepared by an onboard chef, daily snacks, fresh coconuts, juice, soft drinks, and one box of beer per guest. With a local surf guide and a crew of seven, Maki delivers a straightforward, wave-focused trip built for good times and clean lines.
Accommodation

The boat sleeps up to thirteen guests in five air-conditioned cabins, including a master cabin with ocean views and a private bathroom. The remaining cabins are set up with a mix of double and twin beds, each designed with ventilation and privacy in mind. There are five shared toilets and two outdoor showers to keep things practical without feeling crowded. Common areas include an indoor lounge, sun decks, and shaded spaces to chill between sessions. It is not fancy, but it is clean, well-kept, and made for surfers who value good rest, good company, and a well-run boat.
Food & Drinks
Meals on Maki are fresh, filling, and made to keep you fueled from first light to last session. The onboard chef prepares three solid meals each day, along with snacks, coffee, tea, and fresh fruit always on hand. The food is a mix of Indonesian and Western dishes, using fresh local ingredients whenever possible. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite before the morning surf or sitting down to a proper dinner with the crew, the vibe is easy and the meals hit the spot. Each guest also gets one box of beer included in the trip, and there are soft drinks, juices, and fresh coconuts available. It is not fine dining, but it is honest, tasty food served with care—and after a long day chasing waves, it is exactly what you want.
The Surf
Maki Boat runs surf trips through the Mentawai Islands, one of the most wave-rich regions on the planet. With decades of combined local experience, the crew chases the best conditions across a range of iconic breaks including Macaronis, Lance’s Right, Rifles, Kandui, and Thunders, along with lesser-known waves scattered around Sipora, North and South Pagai. Whether you are hunting heavy barrels, rippable walls, or something more forgiving, there is always something on offer. Every trip is flexible and guided by swell, wind, and tides, with two tenders ready for quick access to the lineup. From the playful zones in the Playgrounds area to the heavier outer reefs, Maki’s mission is to get you into the best waves possible with the fewest people around.
Other Activities & Experiences
When the surf slows down or you just want a break, Maki offers plenty to keep you stoked. There is fishing and spearfishing gear onboard, along with snorkelling equipment and stand-up paddleboards for exploring the reefs and lagoons. You can head to shore for beach hangouts, island walks, or just some quiet time under the palms. There is also a lounge space with a screen for reviewing surf clips, watching movies, or just kicking back with music and good company. For those keen on extra thrills, a jet ski is available on request. Whether you are in the water, on the boat, or out exploring, Maki gives you the space to make the trip your own.
